Jennifer Hobson, Sara Hutton and Jannyck Gonima
Jannyck Gonima (BSA '08), Jennifer Hobson (4CLAS) and Sara Hutton (4ALS)

Many students use summer to gain experience for their careers, but the internship Jennifer Hobson, Sara Hutton and JannyckGonima completed wasn't in a field— it was in a marshland. The students completed the Florida Environmental Institute's rigorous 11-week Everglades internship. They were stationed at the West Palm Beach-based Marshall Foundation, which is dedicated to restoring the Florida Everglades through science-based environmental education. The program allows students to explore the geology, history and hydrology of the Florida Everglades. Hobson, Hutton and Gonima live in Gainesville.

Perry McGriff
Perry McGriff (BSPE '60)

In 1996 McGriff had an idea to promote blood donation. That idea grew into the Five Points of Life Ride, a 2,000-mile bike trek that promotes five ways to save lives through donation: blood, apheresis, marrow, cord blood and organ/tissue. At age 71, the former Gainesville mayor and longtime businessman continues to be a member of the 2008 Five Points of Life Ride team, participating in all six previous rides. Last fall, he was inducted into the Fenwal Blood Technologies Donation Hall of Fame. He has donated more than 52 gallons of blood and platelets and even used one of his days off during the tour to donate. He lives in Gainesville.

Darrell Hammond
Darrell Hammond (BSADV '78)

His eyes were averted and his falling fist clenched last fall as the presidential candidate - played by impressionist Hammond - declared "My name is John McCain, and 'Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!'" Hammond, the longest-serving cast member in "Saturday Night Live" history, entered his 14th season on the NBC late night show in September. His portrayals of McCain during the 2008 presidential race added to an acclaimed repertoire of political and celebrity impressions, including Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Sean Connery, Ted Koppel and Donald Trump. In an interview with the Associated Press before the season kicked off, Hammond brushed aside ideas that SNL influences American political attitudes. "I kind of think of myself as a clown who wears funny noses," the Melbourne native said. "I don't think that I'm a policy wonk or legislator." Hammond lives in New York.
